If you are reading this post, then most likely you were in the same position as I. You wanted an excellent portrait lens but did not want to spend $1000+ for one. After lots of research I decided to go with the Rokinon 85mm f1.4 for Nikon which also has a Focus Chip which allows the lens to communicate to the camera and tell you when you are in focus. For $300 or less, I thought I would be purchasing a piece of junk. Little to say, I was wrong, by a long shot.

The Rokinon 85mm F1.4 is made by Samyang in Korea, but also branded and sold under names such as Bower, Pro-Optic, Vivitar, Polar, and many more. They are all the same lens, they just look a bit different. My first impressions of the lens was its lightweight design compared to the Canon or Nikon versions. It feels excellent both on and off the camera. Even though it is not aluminum, it feels strong and well made. The focus chip is spot on with letting me know when I am in focus, it is amazing. This lens has surpassed any and all expectations I would have had. It is beyond sharp as you will see from my sample photos. I HIGHLY recommend buying this lens as a cheaper alternative to the Nikon or Canon 85mm F1.4. now to the good stuff.

This past year was excellent for me. In 2011 I made more progress as a learning photographer then I would have ever thought. I am beyond thankful to so many people for helping me do many things. I am excited for what the new year may bring to the table as far as photography goes. With every shot I see myself growing into my style and really grasping the overall artistic approach to photography. I’m ready to expand my assets and invest both physically and metaphorically into my quest to be successful at something I love. Coming this spring I will be diving into photography head on. I hope every aspect of my images progress to a standard of professionalism I want.
